Dr Jessica Ramella-Roman

In 2016 I met Jessica at the OSA Biomedical Congress in Fort Lauderdale and visited her laboratory at the Florida International University in Miami. I was impressed by her broad expertise in the non-invasive assessment of biological media structure and function utilizing combined spectroscopic and polarimetric techniques. She has developed and patented several optical instruments that utilize the signature of polarized light reflected by biological media to assess collagen alignment and its quantity. Her accomplishments in the biophotonics field also include the development of the Monte Carlo models of polarized light transfer in the absorbing and scattering media that are used by many resrarch groups. Jessica is a prominent leader for the students and young researchers and a source of great ideas and inspiration for me in our collaboration.
