Tom was my PhD advisor. I deeply appreciate his patience and kindness. Tom’s attitude toward teaching and mentoring had profoundly influenced me. Having become a teacher, I admire him even more. Here is a story. One time Tom corrected my thesis and gave a comment “be clever” on the paper. Knowing he was a kind person, I was shocking and depressed by the comment. Later, by a closer look, I found out he actually wrote “be clear.” What a relief! I sincerely wish Tom happy and healthy forever.
