Could Deep Learning Improve Visual Quality in Holographic Displays?

Join the Display Technology Technical Group and the Holography and Diffractive Optics Technical Group for a virtual panel discussion exploring holographic research in display applications and what needs to be done for future holographic displays. The panel will feature presentations from Praneeth Chakravarthula, Princeton Computational Imaging Lab, Liang Shi, MIT CSAIL, and Suyeon Choi, Stanford Computational Imaging Lab. Each talk will be around 15 minutes, and a discussion session will follow the talks.

About the Panelists:

Praneeth Chakravarthula, Princeton University
Praneeth is a research scholar at Princeton University in the Princeton Computational Imaging Lab. His research interests lie at the intersection of optics, perception and graphics. Praneeth's research has won several awards including Timothy L. Quigg student inventor of the year 2019, SIGGRAPH 2022 best paper awards, SIGGRAPH best in show award 2018, Best Paper Awards at ISMAR 2018, IEEE VR 2019, OSA Biophotonics 2020, SPIE Photonics West 2018 and 2020. He obtained his PhD from UNC Chapel Hill, under the advise of Prof. Henry Fuchs, on next generation everyday-use eyeglasses style near-eye displays for virtual and augmented reality.
 
Liang Shi, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Liang Shi is a final-year Ph.D. student at MIT CSAIL working with Prof. Wojciech Matusik. He received his B.E. from Beihang University, M.Sc. from Stanford University, and was a member of Prof. Gordon Wetzstein’s Computational Imaging Group. He was a research intern at NVIDIA, Adobe, and Meta (Facebook) Reality Lab. He is the recipient of the Meta Fellowship and Sony Focused Research Award. His current research interests include computational display, fabrication, and appearance modeling.
 
Suyeon Choi, Stanford University
Suyeon Choi is a third-year Ph.D. student working as a part of Stanford Computational Imaging Lab, advised by Prof. Gordon Wetzstein. He is interested in developing 3D hardware systems with novel algorithmic frameworks. His recent research has focused on developing holographic display systems with machine learning for next-generation VR/AR displays. He is a recipient of a Meta Research Ph.D. Fellowship, a Kwanjeong Scholarship, and a Korean Government Scholarship.
