The Biophotonics Congress is an annual meeting with two alternating scopes. In even years, the congress focuses on biomedical optics; in odd years, the focus shifts to optics in the life sciences.

About Optics in the Life Sciences

Significant developments of optical techniques have led to advancements in biomedical research ranging from molecular and cellular investigations to clinical applications and in the treatment of patients.

This congress explores the latest tools and techniques in optical imaging with a focus on advanced techniques to microscopic imaging and its application including photoacoustic and endoscopic approaches, light field/sheet and multiphoton approaches; development and use of advanced contrast agents; and the use of optical tools to follow and determine the effectiveness of various treatments and drugs.

The congress also presents the latest results from studies of the structure and function of neural networks in the brain, and various approaches being used to stimulate and monitor the resulting neural activity.

  • Learn about the use of deep neural nets and other machine learning techniques being developed to aid in biomedical data analysis.
  • Discover the latest techniques used to follow disease pathogenesis, to track disseminated cancer cell progression and to determine cancer margins.
  • See the latest developments in imaging technologies as applied to remote health monitoring.
  • Follow the latest developments used to study the response of cells and diseases to various drug and drug delivery techniques.
