Zemax expands OpticsBuilder to Creo Parametric CAD platform

Streamline optical assembly with software that empowers optical designers and CAD users to build better products, faster and cheaper through improved teamwork and tighter integrations.

KIRKLAND, WASHINGTON—Zemax today announced the release of OpticsBuilder™ for Creo Parametric, a software solution for optical design teams that helps streamline and improve optomechanical packaging. OpticsBuilder revolutionizes how optical design teams build, analyze and share their work. With OpticsBuilder, users save days of work by first allowing OpticsBuilder to automatically convert and build optical designs into native CAD parts, then empower CAD users to analyze how the mechanical packaging impacts the optical performance and easily export optical drawings to manufacturing teams.

“The expansion of OpticsBuilder to the Creo Parametric CAD platform enables more optical design teams to revolutionize how they package, analyze and export their designs for manufacturing,” said Dr. S. Subbiah, Chief Executive Officer at Zemax. “Today, many of us are learning how to bring our teams closer together while we are forced to isolate from one another. This release is an opportunity for engineering teams to reshape how optical products are brought to market. OpticsBuilder provides a new way for teams to easily share optical designs, analyze real-world optical performance, and quickly export their work for production. Empowered with the right tools, design teams can work together to quickly bring much-needed innovation to market.”

The Need for OpticsBuilder

Turning optical designs into reality means a team of engineers need to coordinate their individual expertise around one common goal. Oftentimes the limiting factor is the time and effort spent to export/convert design data from one tool to another. CAD users spend hours, and often days, converting complete optical designs into the CAD formats that are required by their CAD platform. During optomechanical assembly design, engineers frequently lack the insights they need to analyze how their packaging methods may impact the performance of the optical system. Once the CAD user is finished packaging the optical design, they are often limited by the optical drawing process that requires manual work and is prone to error.

Improved Manufacturability: Better, Faster, Cheaper

OpticsBuilder enables optical engineers and CAD users to increase productivity and work more efficiently by providing the tools needed to build, analyze and share their work. CAD users can quickly start packaging optical designs by allowing OpticsBuilder to automatically convert and build OpticStudio files into native CAD parts. By delivering analysis tools focused on how mechanical packaging impacts optical performance, CAD users find errors early, reduce back-and-forth with Optical Engineers, and create a virtual prototype in lieu of reworking expensive physical prototyping. Additionally, CAD users can easily share ISO compliant optical drawings with manufacturing using an automated push button drawing export tool.
