Optikos Achieves Zero-Finding ISO 13485 Recertification, Underscoring Commitment to Quality in Life Sciences Innovation

WAKEFIELD, MA — August 4, 2026— Optikos LLC, the world's largest independent optical engineering company, has successfully completed its ISO 13485 recertification audit with zero findings. The designation indicates no non-conformities were identified during the audit, which represents a distinction that carries meaningful implications for medical device design and manufacturing.

Optikos, based in Wakefield, MA, is a key player for innovation in optics and photonics through precision and performance delivered across different markets such as defense, life sciences, space, aerial imaging, and semiconductor design and manufacturing, among others. The company achieves this through three main areas of expertise: engineering services, manufacturing, and metrology. This breadth of capability spans multiple industries while maintaining consistent quality standards across all applications.

Specifically for the life sciences and medical diagnostics sector, ISO 13485 is the international standard governing quality management systems for medical devices. The recertification of Optikos processes marks the second full recertification since achieving the initial certified status more than six years ago. The audit, which occurs every three years with surveillance audits in between, requires a comprehensive review of the organization's entire quality management system. This rigorous process touches everything from raw material sourcing through final product delivery, ensuring that every component leaving the facility meets documented standards.

"The auditors we get at Optikos have extensive industry experience and understand exactly what compliance looks like, so the audits are rigorous and detailed," explained Nick Mastrocola, Quality Manager at Optikos. "For medical device manufacturers—particularly those developing Class 2 and Class 3 devices subject to intense FDA scrutiny—this is a critical process that ultimately protects patients and healthcare providers alike."

The recertification process signals reliability that extends far beyond the audit room.

"Receiving zero findings confirms that our quality system is robust. More importantly, it signals to potential employees and partners that Optikos maintains solid regulations and procedures throughout our entire operational framework," Mastrocola said. "This is a strong indicator of organizational maturity."
