Emerging Applied Imaging Technologies at AIO

Arlene Smith, Ph.D.

The AIO-LS&C Joint Session will feature standoff optical detection over a wide range of scales from active sensing of satellites in the 750 km range down to explosives a few meters away. The session comprises three invited speakers. Derryck Reid (Heriot-Watt University) opens the session with "Mid-IR OPOs for Detection."  Dr Haris Riris (NASA) will present his work on "Spaceborne Lasers for CO2 Sensing" followed by a talk on "Trends and Challenges for the Detection of HME Threats" by Augustus Way Fountain III (Edgewood Chemical Biological Center, University of Maryland, Baltimore County).

In previous years, attendees moved between the AIO-AO and AIO-LSC sessions of interest, so this year the groups will unite to highlight the exciting technology moving from the lab bench to commercialization.

Following on from the success of interactive panel discussions at AIO 2014, this year two panel sessions are confirmed in the schedule. The first is a topic of relevance to researchers and technologists in the field of medical imaging and diagnosis titled "Use and Standardization of Optical Phantoms for Medical Devices." This will be considered by a panel of experts, moderated by Kate Bechtel (Triple Ring Technologies). The second panel session "IP and Brand Protection in a Highly Competitive Technical Landscape" is moderated by Joseph Dallas (Avo Photonics) and will cover the processes and pitfalls of patent applications and branding. As in 2014, these sessions promise stimulating discussions and interactions between AIO (and Congress!) attendees and are excellent opportunities for informal networking.

The "Use and Standardization of Optical Phantoms for Medical Devices" Panel Session is on Monday, June 8, 2015 at 18:00.

The AIO - AO Joint Session is on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 17:00; AIO - LS&C is on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 10:30.

The Panel Discussion on IP and Brand Protection in a Highly Competitive Technical Landscape' takes place Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 18:00
