2022年7月8日、日本の元総理大臣の安倍晋三氏が選挙の遊説中に暴漢に襲われて命を落としました。彼はここ十数年の混沌とした政治状況の中で、世界のリーダーのひとりとして世界の平和と安全に尽力し、また日本の文化と伝統をこよなく愛する人でした。私たちOpticaは、人が暴力的に命を奪われることに深い憤りと悲しみを覚えています。日本国では一般人の銃の所有は一切許可されていないのにも関わらず、犯人はインターネットによって銃を手作りする方法を学び、インターネットで必要な部品を取り寄せたと発言しているようです。Opticaは、インターネットや光学／フォトニクスなどの先端的科学と技術は、人と社会の平和と安全を守るために使われるべきであると考えます。
安倍晋三さんのご逝去に、深く哀悼の意を表します。

On July 8, 2022, former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe lost his life after a terrible attack during an election campaign. He was a steady leader during the tumultuous times in world politics of the past decade. He dedicated himself to world peace and security while being a great advocate for Japanese culture and traditions.
We are deeply saddened by his loss.
The perpetrator is reported to have learned on the internet how to make a gun and to have ordered the parts online. Optica believes that advanced science and technology, including the internet, should be used to advance peace and protect the security of people and society.
We express our deepest condolences to the family of Shinzo Abe on his passing.
