Julia H. Majors is a laser physicist who loves talking about it. She earned her Ph.D. at UC Irvine where she studied nanophotonics, single electron processes, and quantum electrodynamic phenomena at femtosecond time scales. While conducting research, she also discovered a passion for effective and engaging science communication. After completing her doctorate, she worked at the American Institute of Physics, producing both public and academic facing publications, before returning to the optical tables and joining the world of industrial photonics. Julia is currently an Optical Program Manager at Avo Photonics, Inc., developing cutting edge precision photonic prototypes for commercial, space, and defense applications. She remains passionate about science communication and continues to find new opportunities to promote scientific outreach.

Julia was a 2021 Optica Ambassador.
