Mesoscopic and Microscopic Biophotonics Imaging of Brain

In this webinar hosted by the Therapeutic Laser Applications Technical Group, Dr. Xingde Li from Johns Hopkins University will present his recent work on intra-operative detection of brain cancer infiltration in patients and functional brain imaging in freely-moving rodents. The technology platforms include quantitative OCT and scanning two-photon fiberscope. The working principles, algorithms, and key technology developments will be briefly discussed, followed by the results of intra-operative studies in patients and preliminary functional brain imaging studies in freely-behaving animals. The use of deep learning to assist data analyses will also be discussed for achieving automated image segmentation, classification, image compression, and imaging speed/quality augmentation.

About the Presenter: Xingde Li from John Hopkins University

Xingde Li, Professor of Biomedical Engineering Johns Hopkins and Fellow of Optica, SPIE, and AIMBE, received his PhD degree in Physics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1998. His research centers on biophotonics imaging technologies and their translational and basic research applications. He has published about 140 peer-reviewed journal papers, with a total citation ~21,000 and an H-index~61 (Google Scholar). He has served on many committees of various societies and has chaired many international conferences including the Optical Biomed Congress. He is serving (or served) as a topical editor or associate editor for Optics Letters, Biomedical Optics Express, Journal of Biomedical Optics, IEEE Trans on BME, (Nature) Light: Science and Applications etc. He is also the lead founding EiC for the recently launched AAAS Science Partner Journal – BMEF (Biomedical Engineering Frontiers).
